50 Altissimo Fingerings for Clarinet
Playing in the clarinet’s altissimo register can be intimidating! Having reliable fingerings can make the difference between playing cautiously and playing with total confidence.
In my 50 Altissimo Fingerings for Clarinet, I share my go-to altissimo fingerings that I’ve curated throughout my professional career. For each note, you’ll find my standard, most reliable fingering listed first, along with additional options to help you navigate different technical and musical contexts.
These fingerings extend from high C (2 ledger lines above the staff) to upper altissimo D, and they are designed to improve:
- Altissimo clarity and response
- Intonation in the high register
- Technical facility in advanced repertoire
- Confidence in orchestral excerpts and solo works
This is not an comprehensive altissimo fingering chart. It’s a carefully selected collection of fingerings that I personally trust and use. You’ll still be encouraged to experiment and discover what works best for your instrument, reed, and setup.
Whether you’re preparing orchestral excerpts, solo repertoire, auditions, or simply strengthening your upper register, this resource will help you approach the altissimo register with more stability and control.
Note: These fingerings are for the Boehm clarinet.
