13 Ways Musicians Can Spread Holiday Cheer

As you’ve probably heard by now, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! You might not be convinced if you’re trying to find last-minute gifts, preparing to host family and friends, or just experiencing the end-of-year craziness, so here are a few ways musicians can spread some holiday cheer this December:

  1. Perform at local hospitals, nursing homes, or anywhere music would be appreciated.
  2. Leave a complimentary and encouraging comment on another musician’s social media pages.
  3. Write a thank you letter to a teacher, mentor, colleague, or any other musician who has made a difference in your life.
  4. Donate reeds, cork grease, mouthpieces, or any other equipment or accessories to a local music program.
  5. Donate your time to teach music to anyone who is willing to learn.
  6. Reach out to a musician you haven’t seen recently to catch up.
  7. If you sell goods or services, consider creating a holiday discount to spread holiday cheer (and savings) to other musicians.
  8. Donate time and/or money to local orchestras, bands, or other music programs.
  9. Help organize a communal space – return lost stands, pick up garbage, and clean practice rooms or offices to start the new year on the right foot.
  10. Bake some sweet treats to share with your section, students, teachers, colleagues, or anyone else who needs a holiday pick-me-up.
  11. Offer your services (such as web design, accounting, social media, arranging) to an organization who could use the help.
  12. Write a letter explaining the importance of music and arts education to your local representatives.
  13. Go caroling (or performing with your instruments).

Happy holidays from Jenny Clarinet!
