Repertoire Recommendations: Autumn-Inspired
Happy autumn to all my northern hemisphere friends!
You all know this is my favorite season, and if you’re looking for new repertoire recommendations (#reprecs) I’ve got you covered!
Here are my favorite autumn-themed clarinet pieces:
- Bechara El-Khoury – Clarinet Concerto, Op. 78, “Autumn Pictures”
- Thea Musgrave – Autumn Sonata: Concerto for Bass Clarinet and Orchestra
- Itaru Sakai – Journey of Leaf for clarinet octet
- Itamar Danziger – Autumn for clarinet and piano (from The Seasons’ Suite)
- Ayser Vançin– Autumn Song for clarinet and piano
- Karol Rathaus – Song of the Autumn for clarinet and piano
- Bernice Petkere – Lullaby Of The Leaves for solo clarinet
- Percy Hall – Falling Leaves for clarinet trio
- Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – Autumn Song, arranged by TĹru Takemitsu
- Joseph Pappas – Autumn Leaves Gently Fall for bass clarinet and piano
- Violet Archer – If the Stars are Burning for clarinet, mezzo-soprano, and piano (the third movement is entitled “Autumn: Kantishna“)
It’s no surprise that many of these composers are Canadian, where I’ve experienced some of the most magnificent autumns of my life! Check out the Canadian Music Centre for this pieces and more wonderful Canadian clarinet repertoire.
