Online Gift Ideas for the Musicians in Your Life

The holiday season undoubtedly looks a lot different this year than most of us had planned. Even though many traditions and festivities have changed, that’s no excuse not to find the perfect gift for the musicians in your life!

You can buy all items on this gift guide online, so you can stay socially distanced and musically connected with loved ones this holiday season.

The best part? These gifts are procrastination-proof! Since all of these gifts are entirely online, you don’t have to wait for shipping!

There are hundreds of amazing online retailers which offer valuable goods and services tailored to musicians, and this list is just a starting point to find exciting gifts your musician friends will love.

Online subscriptions

Pro tip: Before purchasing any of these subscriptions, make sure that the musician doesn’t already have access to the service. Many universities and other institutions include free access, and most organization’s websites will have this information listed.

  • Berlin Philharmoniker Digital Concert Hall. This is the classical musician’s version of Netflix! This subscription includes access to livestreamed concerts as well as six decades worth of recorded concerts, interviews, and other content.
  • Primephonic. Listen to thousands of recordings, discover new composers and repertoire, and revisit your favorite pieces with a subscription to this service.
  • Naxos Music Library. This is another great platform with thousands of recordings, tracks, composers, and artists to discover.
  • Forza Clarinet Excerpts. This includes tracks with accompaniment to orchestral works with the solo clarinet part omitted so you can play along and learn more about these excerpts.

Memberships

There are countless other regional, national, and international music organizations for you to join. Here is a list of clarinet societies from around the world.

Other online gift ideas

  • Lessons. More and more musicians are beginning to offer online lessons, so it’s easier than ever to find a teacher anywhere in the world! (By the way, I offer online clarinet lessons, and I’m currently accepting new students!)
  • Digital products. I’ve seen an influx of awesome digital products and resources this year geared towards musicians. From Boot Camps, practice plans, e-books, and other great resources, there’s no shortage of online content to help musicians improve.
  • Digital services. Purchasing digital services can help musicians complete projects outside their comfort zone, such as building a website, setting up a YouTube channel, managing their finances, booking more gigs, and even hiring a virtual assistant. (Just be sure to do thorough research into who you hire to avoid any scams!)
  • Sheet music stores. Buy an online gift card for musicians to shop at their favorite online music store so they can stock up for future performances (whether they’re IRL or virtual).

Support small businesses & local musicians

  • Buy a gift card to a local music store.
  • Shop from small businesses and vendors on Etsy, eBay, and other online retailers.
  • Hire a musician or ensemble for your next virtual soirée.

I hope these ideas help make your holiday shopping less stressful this year.
